Christopher Uphouse is an experienced trial attorney and problem solver in a wide range of litigation matters. Chris represents clients in defamation and First Amendment matters, probate litigation, real estate disputes, construction litigation, personal injury and wrongful death cases, and commercial litigation. He has helped defend Maine media outlets against defamation claims and has significant criminal defense experience. Chris has litigated in both state and federal courts throughout Maine.
While prepared to fight hard for his clients, Chris recognizes the inherent value of resolving litigation problems collaboratively when possible. This interest in creative problem-solving led Chris to expand his law practice to include private mediation and to serve as a divorce and family matters mediator for the Maine Courts' CADRES program.
Chris graduated from Boston University School of Law in 2018, where he earned distinction for his written and oral advocacy. Prior to attending law school, Chris earned a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy, with honors, from the University of Chicago and later served five years as a Special Forces Weapons Sergeant in the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne). He deployed twice to Iraq and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal in recognition of his service.
Chris lives in Surry with his wife and four children and works in Viridian's Ellsworth offices. His free time is spent helping with his children's education, renovating his family's Civil War era farmhouse, and running, hiking, and camping.
